Cashier talks young robber into leaving

Date Posted: 2004-05-06

Convenience store robberies occur occasionally; often enough that they normal don’t make the news. A Gushikawa 24-Hour convenience store incident though, was bizarre.

A strange looking guy walked in, according to the cashier, wearing sunglasses and a mask made of towels covering his face. The individual had a knife in his hand as he approached the clerk.

“Hey. I don’t do any bad things and I don’t give you any injuries. Just give me the money,” he told the cashier.

The cashier was more than suspicious, thinking the would-be robber just didn’t seem old enough, and told the boy “I don’t tell anybody. You better go now before somebody comes. Go quickly.”

The robber listened, and walked out without taking anything. Once he was gone, the cashier called police and told them to look for a boy. Police did, and after 30 minutes apprehended the youngster using the description provided. The boy was still in the area, about two kilometers from the convenience store.

Police took the youth to the police station, and also called his school principal. When he saw the principal, he began to cry, telling the school official “I wanted to buy a game machine. Yes, I did.”

Police say the wannabe thief was only 13 years old, and was trying robbery to get the video game.
