Mystery surrounds woman found dead in Naha hotel

Date Posted: 2004-04-29

The body of a young woman was found under a bed in a Naha city hotel room nearly a month ago. The discovery was reported, and police began an investigation.

Today, police know who she was. They say she was a 29-year-old local woman working parttime at a Naha nightclub. She had been reported missing by her family in early April.

What they don’t yet know is how she died. The body was decomposed after what officials believe was a week undiscovered in the hotel room. They’re still working on the autopsy.

Fingerprints were used to identify the woman. Now they’re tracking her movements in the weeks before her death. They have her cellular telephone and are tracing more than 100 calls received shortly before she disappeared. They’re asking the respondents what their relationship to the woman was.

Further complicating the story are reports the woman was suffering from a fatal disease, and while working at a supermarket several years ago had fallen down and been taken to a hospital. There is speculation she may have died from the disease, but police are discounting that theory, noting that the body was found stuffed under the hotel bed.

A supermarket co-worker termed the woman “a good worker, very kind and quiet person.” Police say it’s difficult to think the woman plotted her own death. Their investigation continues.
