Low morale, lack of management ails Naha City Office

Date Posted: 2002-04-22

A survey commissioned by Naha City has found that the city office that employs some 4,500 people is suffering from low morale, lack of management and badly defined targets in their work. Surveyors sent a questionnaire to all city employees, but only about a third answered. Among the complaints, a lack of effective supervision came on top. “There are many people who just take a day off whenever they like, come here in the morning and clock in and then disappear to play golf or take care of their private business for the whole day,” was the sum-up of these complaints. As a result of the survey, Naha City Mayor Takeshi Onaga wows to tighten reins on his workers and the management. “I suspected something like this, but I now I know. I promise it to Naha citizens that I will put stop to wasting their money. They deserve to get the best their tax money can buy,” Onaga said.
