Comprehensive Park is ideal spot for fitness and relaxationBy: David Knickerbocker Date Posted: 2002-04-22 ![]() ![]() ![]() One of my personal favorite things to do whenever visiting the park is to feed the ducks, turtles, and fish. During my visit today, I noticed many more baby fish than on my last outing. The turtles had grown and were much less timid than before. In fact, if you bring bread, they will actually eat out of your hand. So will the ducks! The carp were obnoxious as ever, and while trying to feed the turtles and fish, the carp would pile on top of each other and the turtles to get a bite of the bread I threw in the lake. They were as rough as a mob of football players pouncing on a loose ball in a mad rampage! It’s really hilarious to watch! I recommend bringing one loaf of bread for each person wanting to feed the animals. It goes by quicker than you’d expect. The park also has a soccer and rugby field, running track, baseball stadium, nature trail, several basketball and tennis courts, and much more than I have yet to discover. The park is very nature oriented and there are many benches to sit in and talk with a friend or think by yourself while listening to birdcalls. The lake near the entrance is by far the most relaxing place to be, and during these spring afternoons, the weather is quite cool with a refreshing breeze, and if it starts to rain there are plenty of places to take cover under. Further inside the park is a full-scale playground just for the kids. Refusing to give up my childhood, I still love to play in the park’s giant nets and climbing castles. Everywhere around me, children were running, jumping, climbing ropes, going down slides, screaming and shouting, thoroughly enjoying life! Comprehensive Park is a favorite spot for many locals and foreigners alike. It is a must see, and after your first visit, you’ll want to come again. This park certainly has something to offer for everyone, young and old. Driving to Comprehensive Park is quite easy. If you are driving out of Kadena Gate 2, drive straight through the Goya four-corners intersection onto route 20. Take this road about 10 minutes until you reach the major intersection for route 329 and then turn right. Stay on this road until you reach the park. You will pass a San-A and McDonalds and a few minutes later will see road signs announcing Comprehensive Park. Finally, you’ll see the arched entrance on your left side. Turn in here, park your car, and go explore! |
