Youth sentenced to prison for beating friend to deathDate Posted: 2004-02-26 Prosecutors had argued the youth knew beforehand that the beating would result in the death of the victim, and had demanded the accused be sentenced for intent to kill Zakimi through willful negligence. The presiding judge disagreed, and convicted the youth of causing injury resulting in death. Three other younger defendants in the case were tried earlier last year and found guilty of willful negligence. They were sent to a juvenile correction facility by the Family Court. The case of the 17-year-old defendant was referred to Naha District Court because he was over 16 at the time of the incident. The four said they got angry with Zakimi as he continuously lied to them, and decided to beat him up in order to teach him a lesson. They then brutally beat him for about two hours using wooden sticks and metal trays The boy died as a result of that beating. |
