Foreigners pass fake money in Okinawa City bar

Date Posted: 2004-02-19

Okinawa City Police say that two foreigners, possibly Americans, passed several $20 bills that later proved to be counterfeits in a show club on Chuo Park Avenue, Sunday.

Investigators say that two foreign men entered the club mostly frequented by American servicemen, and ordered drinks that they paid with a $20 bill for which they received change. They then ordered a second round and again paid with a $20. The staff at the club said that the two ordered altogether seven drinks and every time paid with a $20 bill and pocketed the change.

Although that seemed odd to the staff, they did not take a closer look at the bills before the two left the club. Thatís when they discovered that every bill had the same serial number and they called the police.

The police say that it appears that the fake banknotes had been made with either a color copy machine or with a printer. They also say that in addition to seven drinks each, the two pocketed $98 in change.
