17-year-old nabbed for attacking several schoolgirls

Date Posted: 2004-02-05

A youngster angry over his evening high school classes and social status lashed out at several teenage Urasoe girls last week. Urasoe City Police arrested a 17-year-old boy on Saturday on suspicion of attacking and hitting an 18-year-old high school girl on the face in Miyagi, Urasoe City.

According to police, the teen had approached the girl who was on her way home about 9 p.m. last Wednesday. On a quiet, dark stretch he approached the victim, covered her mouth and eyes with his hand and punched her several times on the face. He then ran away to his motorcycle and escaped.

The girl called immediately the police, and was able to remember a part of the license number of the assailant’s motorcycle. That enabled the police to track him down. When questioned, the boy confessed to three other similar attacks that had occurred earlier the same day. He also hinted he was responsible for several similar attacks on high school girls that had occurred at several locations since October last year.

The boy reportedly told investigators he was angry at high school girls because he had to go to night time high school. “I don’t like people the same age as I am because they go to school daytime and I don’t. They always tell me that I am stupid and I am bad. That’s why I decided to take revenge,” the boy said. He also said that once he got started he could not stop attacking the teens. “I felt this anger grow stronger inside me and I wanted to beat more of them,” he told investigators. The name of the arrested boy is being withheld because he is a minor.
