Young adult arrested for punching another on face

Date Posted: 2004-01-15

A young man celebrating his “Coming of Age” day Monday, was arrested after he punched another participant in the face at the official “Coming of Age” ceremony in Urasoe City. According to Urasoe Police, a melee had broken out between two groups of young men at the official party. Organizers called police to restore order. Daiki Kaneshiro was being held by a police officer when he managed to wiggle himself free and immediately punched another young man in the face. He was subsequently overpowered by the police and arrested.

Kaneshiro has reportedly admitted to the charges. “He hit my friend so I hit him back,” Kaneshiro was quoted as telling the police. He and other participants at the brawl were reportedly drunk at the time.

Monday was a national holiday called “Coming of Age Day” in which municipalities across the country hold formal parties for those who have become 20 years of age within the previous year. Many young adults get drunk on that day, and engage in unadult shenanigans at the gatherings.
