Start the New Millennium with Big Bull’s Beef and Steak

Some eateries just really know how to satisfy their customers to the point of making them come back over and over again. These are restaurants where the clients are treated to a real polite welcome, a warm and cozy atmosphere inside, as well as food of excellent quality. Big Bull, one of the island’s rare steak houses, is definitely one of those restaurants.

Making good use of a 40-year work experience at Nippon Ham Factory, and the knowledge of meats he gathered while working there, Yoshihiro and Kyoko Oshiro opened the first "Big Bull" steak house in the Hamby area of Chatan City 6 years ago. Isa had worked for Nippon Ham, which is one of the better-known butcheries all over Japan, for over 40 years. Knowledge of beef and experience in serving customers with the best customers have made husband and wife the best of their kind on Okinawa, for the greatest pleasure of out-of-home diners.

"You can't fool the customers by using meat of less quality, because one bite reveals everything in this business," Oshiro, the owner of the restaurant said.

The restaurant offers a variety of steak on the menu, including Big Bull Steak (300 g) and Prime Rib Steak (200 g for small and 300 g for large). A combo dish like Steak & Chicken (¥1200) - which presents 180 g of steak and 200 g of grilled chicken - is very popular at the Big Bull, especially among American customers. All steak main courses come with soup, salad, rice or bread, a soft drink, and ice cream. The portions are fully satisfactory for customers of all stomach sizes, and the prices suit the dishes very well.

According to Oshiro, Japanese professional baseball players from Nippon Ham Fighters are among the regular customers of the restaurant. Every year, the players always come in from Nago, where they hold their annual Okinawa camp training sessions, to the Hamby steak house just for the sizzling Big Bull Steak.

From 11:30am to 2:00pm, a hectic lunch menu, including Rib Eye Steak and Teriyaki Chicken, is offered for only ¥780, both at the Hamby and Goya branches. At the Goya branch, the popular Big Bull original dinner item, Big Bull Potato, which is a combination of mashed potato, diced steak and vegetables, can be relished during lunch hours.

Big Bull opens at 11:30pm daily, and closes after last orders that must be made by 10:30pm. Dollars and yen are both accepted at Hamby and Goya branches. Bilingual staff is available for English-speaking customers at the Goya branch. The menu is written in both English and Japanese.

Directions: Big Bull Hamby branch is located next to the Chatan Park in the Hamby Shopping Mall area. To get there, take Route 58 from Kadena to Naha. At the traffic light (you'll see Hamby Town Shopping Mall on your right), make a right turn. Then, go straight until you reach the traffic light and make a left turn. When you see the gas station on your right, slow down and enter the street between the gas station and the empty lots - you will be in the Big Bull parking area. You'll see "Big Bull" steak house on your right. Goya branch is located just 5 minute-walk from KAB Gate 2. It is located on the second floor of Altec Liquor shop on your left from Gate 2.
