Countdown to Millennium in Nago City

On the night of December 31st 1999 to January 1st 2000, from 23:00 through 1:00a.m., a Special Countdown to the Millennium event will be held in Nago 21-seiki Beach located behind the Baseball Stadium in Nago City.

This will be a 200-Days-Before Summit ceremony named “Summit Countdown Nago,” sponsored by Nago City and Nago Citizens’ Summit Promotion Council. This event is to be conducted with the purpose of encouraging the inhabitants of Nago City and Okinawa Prefecture to make of the 2000 G8 Summit a success, and for the promotion of Nago City which will host the great event next July. During this event, Hikari-Moji, the word written with lights on a hillside slope, will be illuminated, and Okinawan traditional Eisa Dance will be performed. AN NHK TV program, Yukutoshi Kurutoshi, broadcasting throughout Japan from the night of 31st of December to New Year’s Day, will be aired live from the site of this special event.
