Complete Food Hygiene Checks in Hotels

On December 7th, a united group of Okinawa Prefectural Food Hygiene Association and Hokubu, Ishikawa and Koza Public Health Centers underwent a Food Hygiene Control and System Check at 3 hotels in Nago City, Yomitan and Onna Villages. These were hotels where heads of state and government of G8 Summit nations, the press cops and police forces will be staying during the 2000 Summit.

Okinawa Prefectural Food Hygiene Association announced the decision of establishing complete food hygiene control system on the 17th of November, after the food poisoning case that occurred in Busena Terrace Resort Hotel in Nago City. They conducted this complete food hygiene control so as to prevent the kinds of problems caused by bad food hygiene conditions.

They are also giving proper guidance to hotels to strengthen these hotels’ food hygiene control systems. The sanitary officers and public health centers in Ishikawa, Hokubu and Koza were divided into 3 groups to check 3 hotels separately. They checked the temperature of the freezers and refrigerators, chlorine density of the water, bacteria in the kitchen, on cooking utensils and cooks’ hands.

Apart from the recent food hygiene check, they are also going to control and give advice to over 10 other hotels in the same area. The sanitary inspectors are now planning to conduct further food hygiene lectures for people who will be participating in activities concerning the G8 Summit, starting in March.
