Elderly Man Dies in Chinen Village Fire

On December 13th, Monday, about 19:30, a fire that started in a house in Chinen Village, left a whole neighborhood in sorrow. A neighbor first noticed the fire immediately asked another to call the nearest fire station. Shimajiri Fire Station received a notification call at 7:50 p.m., and dispatched fire-fighting equipment to the site to extinguish the fire. However, in spite of the firefighters’ efforts, the house burnt down to the ground. The completely charred body of a man, 67-year old Hokoichi Itokazu, was recovered from the ashes. The first son of the victim, Toshikazu Itokazu, was rushed to hospital after having been rescued by a neighbor from the disastrous flames. He is still in serious condition, after sustaining burns all over his body and losing consciousness. Yonabaru Police has opened up an investigation into the cause of the fire.
