Man Arrested for Issuing Threats by Phone

Date Posted: 1999-12-24

Naha City Police recently arrested a 42-year old man for having issued threats of violence against his former girlfriend over the phone. On Saturday, December 18th, at about 4:35 PM, the Naha cops caught the suspect named Mitsuru Hasegawa, after he ironically delivered himself to them without knowing that he would be found in their bad books by bad chance.

In effect, just an hour before his arrest, Hasegawa-San had walked into the Regional Affairs Division of Naha City Police Station for information about his vehicle, which had been towed by the police. When he got there, the police officer who dealt with his vehicle problem made some inquiries about him with Higashi Sumiyoshi Police Station in Osaka. Following that short inquiry, it was established that the man whose car had been towed away by Naha City Police, was the same person who was wanted by the Osaka law enforcement officers for having issued threats by phone. They arrested him immediately.

According to Naha Police accounts, the incident leading to his arrest occurred on October 1st of this year, around 1:20 PM. Hasegawa allegedly threatened his former girlfriend, who lives in Higashi Sumuyoshi-ku, Osaka by phone. He left a message on her answering machine asking the lady to deposit some 300,000 to 500,000 in his bank account, otherwise he would harm her. Although she never yielded to the threats, she instantly notified the threats to the police.
