On the third floor of what is probably the most attended amusement spot on the island - the “American Village” in Mihama, Chatan - a cool restaurant that has appeared. Known simply as 3F, it has a very casual atmosphere, a mix between a cafe and a club.

3F is an “Izakaya” styled restaurant that offers specialties of international taste and a variety of entertainment to customers who want to spend their evening a bit differently. Only several months have passed since the restaurant opened, but it has already built quite a reputation on the Mihama dining scene.

As soon as you step out of the elevator, the wooden exotic sculpture and furniture on the wall conjures an eatery in Bali. The spacious dining room, which can accommodate a couple of hundred people, has a cozy and airy atmosphere. A stage for live musical performance is right there in front of the dining room, and a live band performance can be enjoyed along with the food on weekends.

At the center of the dining room, there is a big projector, which displays music videos featuring a variety of artists, providing entertainment during evening when live performance is not on program.

“3F is the place where diners enjoy a comfortable and relaxing evening with music that’s not too soft and not too loud,” Jeff Short, the manager of the restaurant said.

This restaurant’s attempt to attract diners with new ambiance seems to work fine. This Mihama supper house is fast becoming the romantic dine-out spot and the hang both for local nationals and foreign residents. Various types of customers, including groups of after-work salary men, couples, and families, all dine at the 3F.

They are not only attracted by the ambiance of the restaurant; with their palates, the customers can also feel the exotic tastes of the food. At the restaurant, authentic Thai foods such as Thai Tomuyankun and Thai ramen prepared by the Thai cook can be enjoyed at reasonable prices. The spice level for Thai cuisine can be adjusted to the customer’s preference. For those who enjoy really spicy dishes, and those who enjoy the modest hot level, there is always a choice. Besides Thai foods, the restaurant offers a variety of global tastes. Jamaican Chicken (¥1500), Tortilla Tacos (¥500), BBQ Grill (¥1500), Vetnamese Spring Rolls (¥450), and Cajan Fried potatoes (¥400) are just a few among the popular dishes offered there. The menu is written both in English and Japanese.

There might be many other restaurants that offer good foods and good music. But 3F goes one step further than that. It is both a place for real fine food and fun; besides, 3F is becoming one good destination for partygoers.

A Salsa dance group, ”El Fieston” has been hosting Salsa dance parties at the restaurant with a lot of success, under code name “Latin Lady’s Night,” twice a month. During these nights, mostly Saturdays, El Fieston, which is a salsa dance troupe with 7 young men from Peru, heats up the restaurant with exciting Salsa sounds and dance.

The last Latin Lady’s Night of the 20th century will be held on Saturday, December 18th. The party will start at 11:30 PM. Tickets will be available at the door at the price of ¥500 (1 drink included).

On December 25th, 3F will present “Reggae Christmas Party.” The event will start at 11:30 PM. Admission will be ¥1500 (1 drink included).

3F opens seven days a week from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM on weekdays and from 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM on weekends. English-speaking staff are available at all times for better service to foreigners.

Directions: From Kadena, take Route 58 and head towards Naha. >From the traffic light at Camp Lester Gate 1, make a right turn (you will see “Mr.Chuka” Chinese restaurant on your right), and go straight. At the second traffic light, make a right turn again. The parking lot for the “American Village” will be on your left.
