First General Meeting for Language Volunteers Held in NagoDate Posted: 1999-12-17 123 people, including 25 foreigners, participated in the general conference. As of December 14th, 239 people had registered as language volunteers to Nago Citizens’ Summit Promotion Council. These language volunteers will be divided up into separate groups, depending on demand and convenience during the Summit. Information Staff and Tour Guides will need the highest level of speaking, listening and understanding of English skills. There will be 40 to 50 people acting as information staff, 40–50 people as Tour Guides, 50–60 people as Event Staff and 30– 40 people as Translation Staff. After the volunteers are divided into each of these activity groups, they will undergo a targeted training seminar on Okinawa and protocol. As for the Tour Guides, of whom high-level English skills will be required, seminars will hold very frequently from next January. All tour guide volunteers do not only require good English skills, but also must attend the training seminars. From now on, there will be 6 or more general lectures for the language volunteers until next June. |
