Minor car accident ends in murder threats and arrest

Date Posted: 1999-08-27

A man who allegedly threatened to kill a car dealer after he gave advice to a driver involved in a minor car accident has been arrested, police announced.

Police said Seihho Ikehara, 53, a resident of Chatan Town, was arrested by Okinawa City Police Friday shortly after he fled from a car yard where the 29-year-old dealer worked.

The incident arose when the suspect was involved in a minor traffic accident in a parking lot in Chubu. Okinawa Police said the driver of the second vehicle involved went to the car dealer for advice, and was told to file a report with the police. When told of the man’s plan to notify police, Ikehara became angered and allegedly called the car dealer and threatened to kill him. The suspect argued that the accident only caused a small scratch and as such the police should not be informed.

The suspect then went to the car yard and allegedly threatened the man with a knife, but fled before police could arrive. A short search located Ikehara in Okinawa City, where he admitted his guilt and was arrested.
