Pokemon Game Has Occultic InfluenceBy: Pastor Sue Kennedy, Kadena Community Church International Date Posted: 1999-12-10 As a Christian and the co-pastor of a local community church, I have some strong concerns about Pokemon and the occultic influences throughout the game. Leviticus 19:26 says, “Do not practice divination or sorcery.” Deuteronomy 18:10-12 says, “There shall not be found any among you who... uses divination, or is a soothsayer, or an auger, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord...” The Pokemon card game was made and marketed by Wizards of the Coast. “Wizard” in the dictionary means one who practices magic or sorcery. Magic is defined as the use of means such as charms or spells believed to have supernatural power over natural forces; magic rites and incantations. Sorcery is defined as the use of power gained from the assistance or control of evil spirits, especially for divining. The secular writer Sledge has compared Pokemon to a child’s version of Dungeons and Dragons. Often you can tell what is really behind a game by looking at what it is associated with. The little Pokemon Abra evolves into Kadabera. They are both in the psychic category. Abra can teleport its way out of difficulties. Kadabera has a pentagram on its forehead, SSS on its chest and can send out waves of mental energy that causes headaches at close range. You can use energy removal cards to take away your opponent’s energy, or get a”potion” to heal your Pokemon. The game also uses sleep, confusion (which can make a Pokemon to attack itself), paralysis, or poison to come against its opponent. James 3:14-16 speaks of envy and strife bringing confusion and every evil work. This kind of wisdom does not come from God but is earthly and demonic. James 3:17 says: “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” So I encourage you parents and Pokemon enthusiasts to be wise in your purchases. The Creator, Almighty God offers life and all the power we need in Jesus Christ. Sincerely, Pastor sue Kennedy, Kadena Community Church International. |
