Romantic Okinawa : Your Choice of Restaurant May Determine The Future of Your Love LifeBy: Brandon Arakaki Date Posted: 1999-12-10 One American couple living and working in Okinawa believes so much in the romantic magic of dining together that they have decided to make sure the Shakespearean tragedy does not befall any couple on the island. Basically, Horace Fauntleroy and Chanelle Johnson have gone several extra miles all over Okinawa Prefecture to dig out all those magical, sensational dining spots where a growing emotion can instantly develop into maturity, a love relationship become sensually solidified, and any marriage mysteriously transformed into eternal delight. Their new book, “Romantic Okinawa”, is literally filled with lots of exciting places for you and your partner to enjoy and get the chance to enjoy one another’s company in a different way every day. From teashops and evening dining, to after dinner spots and romantic getaways, the book has it all; complete with venue descriptions, directions, prices and photographs. Imagine dining by candlelight in an elegant restaurant, with a stunning view of the sun setting over the ocean. The evening is concluded with a stroll along the white sands of a private beach. Not sure where to find such a location? Look no further. The authors of “Romantic Okinawa” know all those places. They made the decision to share their discovery after they realized that most of the people they excitedly talked to about their sweet moments together in Okinawa’s romantic restaurants had hardly heard of them. “Many Americans here hardly venture off base,” Horace Fauntleroy explained to Japan Update. “That is due to several factors: being unsure of where to go, how to get there and not knowing what type of foods is served.” Their publication, which will be in several Okinawa stores starting December 11th, 1999, is a collection of several types of restaurants that would appeal to all sectors of Okinawa’s cosmopolitan population. Keeping in mind that the term “romantic” could bear very subjective definitions, depending on the individual, they have selected a variety of places that would hopefully appeal to all tastes. Some of the establishments are cozy and elegant; others have a casual, laid back aura. Some have an intimate atmosphere, while others have a spectacular view. Horace and Chanelle also list a couple of beautiful parks (no entrance fee) for romantic picnics, and “Tea-For-Two” spots where less prosperous couples can spend an afternoon together while sipping tea or coffee. The most symbolic aspect of the collection is the number 52; lovers in Okinawa now have a book with a list of 52 restaurants where they can dine at least once every week of the year. “Writing this book has truly been a labor of love,” Chanelle Johnson remarked. “Horace and I have gone through all of these romantic places together, rekindling our love at every occasion, and we are now engaged to be married. That’s so much like a fairy tale ending...” WHERE TO BUY “ROMANTIC OKINAWA” (Starting December 11, 1999): Kadena USO; Kadena Officers’ Spouses Gift Shop, Schilling Recreation Center Okinawan Gift Shop, Kadena Information Ticket and Tours (ITT) and Tuttle Bookstore at the Plaza House Shopping Mall.
