Prefecture to Illuminate Summit Venue

Date Posted: 1999-12-10

The Okinawa Prefecture Government is planning to lighten up the official venue of the 2000 G-8 Summit. Authorities decided to move this light-up plan forward because the location where the official venue of the Summit, known as Bankoku Shinryokan, gets really dark after sunset. They consider that the enlightening the venue will bring international press organizations to feel much better about filming their programs there when darkness falls around the site. According to the Okinawa Prefecture People’s Summit Promotion Council, the illumination of the conference venue is one of the promotional plans aimed at marketing Okinawa in the best possible light to the world. The special illumination will last until the Summit is over, and local authorities hope that it will be one of the greatest attractions at that time.
