The '99 Mii-Gushuku Matsuri (festival) will be held at Loisir Hotel Okinawa in Naha City this Saturday and Sunday.

In Okinawan dialect, "Gushuku" means “castle” and “Mii-Gushuku Matsuri” is the festival that Loisir Hotel holds to celebrate the history and the tradition of Mii-gushuku (Mii Castle) once a year. The event will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday and festivities will take place from the first floor to the third floor, and also outside areas of the hotel.

To provide visitors an opportunity to learn about Mii Castle and the lifestyle of times past, a display of pictures and performing arts will be offered free of charge.

Events where visitors can participate include pottery (¥2,000 - ¥3,500); “Bingata”, or specially dyed fabric workshops (¥500), can be found on the first and second floors. Workshop hours for pottery are from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. for the “Bingata” workshop, both on Saturday and Sunday.

Although the event has cultural and educational elements, fun also plays a large role in the proceedings.

For this 4th "Mii-gushuku" Festival, two main show stages will be set up. The first stage, with seating for 360, will be at the A1 Parking lot in front of the hotel and the second one will be poolside on the second floor.

At each stage, a variety of entertainment for both children and adults is scheduled. The show at the stage at the A1 Parking lot will start with an exciting drum performance (6:30 p.m. Saturday) and the beautiful sounds of the “Loisir Hotel Band” (6:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday) and “Ultimate Satisfaction” (7 p.m. & 8:40 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday) will follow. On Sunday, enjoy also a Children’s Eisa-dance performance (6:30 p.m.) and the Yukata (Summer Kimono) Contest, complete with prizes. Food and drink will be available at stalls.

A live music performance entitled " Ocean Live" also can be enjoyed with a BBQ and beers at the stage near the swimming pool. At the close of the program on Sunday, a fireworks display should kick into action at about 9:20 p.m.

Please note that only yen will be accepted at the festival. For those who want to exchange dollars to yen, and vice versa, please go to the reception desk inside the hotel.

Since their will be a shortage of available parking during the event, carpooling is recommended.

Directions: Take Route 58 from Kadena to Naha. When you reach the traffic light at Asahi Bridge (you'll see a white and red colored Ryukyu Bank sign on your right .) Then, make a right turn and go straight until the end of the street. You'll see the Loisir Hotel Okinawa ahead of you.
