Eisa Festival attracts 100,000

Date Posted: 1999-08-13

Event organizers of the People’s Eisa Festival said more than 100,000 people visited last weekend’s festival held along Kokusai St in Naha City. The festival, first scheduled for Aug. 1, was postponed due to the recent typhoon.

About 120 Eisa dancing groups participated in this annual event, which closes down Naha’s famous Kokusai (international) Street for the day.

The week-long delay due to bad weather did nothing to dampen the locals’ enthusiasm for the event who came out in their thousands to support one of the island’s most popular summer festivals.
