Police Raids Strip Show, Charges Filed

Date Posted: 1999-12-03

A police raid, Friday, to a Naha theater featuring nude dancers resulted in charges filed against the management of the theater and in the arrest of one of its dancers for overstaying her visa.

According to the police, the suspects in custody are accused of aiding and abetting a show that’s against the laws prohibiting obscene acts in the public. The police arrested the manager of the theater, three employees and two dancers. One of the strippers, a Colombian national was found overstaying her visa and was booked on that charge also.

Investigators say that the suspects had put together an act that they called the “Polaroid Show” featuring naked dancers in front of the customers who were handed Polaroid cameras so they could take pictures. When the police raided the place, one of the dancers was in the act in front of two customers. The police then confiscated the camera and its film for evidence.

While questioning the manager and employees of the theater, the police discovered that one of the dancers did not possess a valid visa for staying and working in Japan. The police raided the theater after receiving a tip.
