Summit Promotion Committee exhibition held

Date Posted: 1999-08-07

An exhibition highlighting the major events scheduled for the 2000 Summit, combined with a profile of summit participants and information about the recently completed Cologne G8 Summit was held last week.

The exhibition was intended to give Okinawans an opportunity to learn more about the summit and to instill a sense of community spirit and cooperation in the runup to July 2000.

During the exhibition, a section was set aside for those who wished to sign-up as volunteers to help during the three days the summit will be held. One exhibition member said 25 people had volunteered to act as interpreters. August 18 has been scheduled as the day when a lecture will be given to provide volunteers a briefing of what is expected.

The exhibition also saw the raising of flags from the eight participating industrialized nations as well as the European Commission flag at four locations - on the roof-top of the city office, inside the exhibition site, at the entrance arch of the exhibition and at Yofuke along Highway 58.
