As I See It

As I see it, everyone will be running around soon like a turkey with its head cut off getting ready for the Holiday season. Thatís right, I said turkey! Itís about time we give credit where credit is due. Every year during this time we race to the supermarkets in search of the biggest butterball we can find. Hearing the same words penetrate throughout the supermarkets, ďHoney, do you think 28 pounds will be enough?Ē Iíll skip my gluttonous society speech. Some people will be having cornish hens instead of turkey. (And for those of you who are, please stop reading this article. You have enough problems already. If you are having Salmon on the grill this Thanksgiving, take my advice and jump now.) Personally Iím tired of the chicken getting all of the credit. We have KFC, Chicken McNuggets, Chicken Fingers, Chick Filet, Chicken salad, Chicken tacos, chicken this and chicken that. Heck! Even the stupid rooster became the logo of choice for Kelloggís Corn Flakes! I really empathize with the turkey around this time of the year, probably because I can relate to how it feels. Totally unappreciated! Iím talking about his one minute in the spotlight during the whole year just to be overshadowed by some person, place, thing or idea. This is the time we are supposed to do some real soul searching as we go around the table and say what we are thankful for. Just getting someone to go first almost sends drumsticks flying. Then when they do start, itís short and sweet. Just like the life of the turkey, Iím sitting there waiting to hear, ďIím thankful for my wonderful, great looking, self sacrificing, always loving, couldnít live without him, DAD!ď Is that so much to ask? Instead, what do I hear? ďThanks for my dog, MogiĒ. I hate that dog! It gets all the credit just like the chickens. Thatís how I see it! Happy Thanksgiving to all! Except you chickens.
