Naha hotel owners arrested for pimping workers

Date Posted: 2003-06-14

Naha Police arrested two hotel owners Monday on suspicion of prostituting their workers. The investigation began as police officials were questioning several snack bar proprietors suspected of engaging in prostitution. Those interviews revealed that some hotel owners were also enticing their employees to provide extra services to their customers. The owners allegedly pressured their female workers into prostitution by telling them it would be the only means for the hotel to stay in business and the workers to retain their jobs.

An investigation lead to the arrest of the owners of two hotels in the Tsuboya area of Naha City. The current economic slump has hit small hotels in Naha City hard, and owners of those enterprises are hard pressed to stay in business.
