Kadena to Inactivate 12th Fighter Squadron

Date Posted: 1999-11-10

Kadena’s 18th Wing Operations Group will, on this Friday, November 5, officially inactivate its 12th Fighter Squadron. An inactivation ceremony has been scheduled for that day during which one of Kadena’s three fighter squadrons will be eliminated.

According to US air Force sources, the 18th Wing presently has fifty-four F-15C aircraft equally divided into groups of 18. Following Friday’s inactivation of one squadron, five of those aircraft will return to the United States later this year, while another will remain on Kadena as an additional item. The other 48 will then be managed under 2 new squadrons of 24 aircraft.

Kadena sources say that inactivation is an efficiency-oriented routine operation in the Air Force, during which it reviews the placement of its assets worldwide.
