Reef Check

Date Posted: 1999-10-19

If you are a scuba diver, and you have ever been concerned about the current state of coral reef around the island, this may be the time to give a hand. The Coral Network is looking for volunteer divers with qualified skills for coral research. With the cooperation of JTA, Helius Brewery, and Hot Spar convenience store, the Coral Network will hold the Reef Check from October 25th to 27 in Ishigaki Island.

Qualifications for attendance are easy: the skill of neutral buoyancy under water and the ability to communicate in Japanese. As a measure of the diving skill, one must have at least 30 diving experiences. C Cards are required from all interested attendants.

The cost for the research tour will be \39,750. That covers every expense that comes along with the research from airfare to foods. After a lecture on the 25th, the Reef Check will take place on the 26th. In case of the bad weather, an extra day for the Check will be added.

The research tour will leave for Ishigaki Island in the evening of the 25th and come back to Naha on the evening of the 27th. For more details, visit web site at www.ReefCheck.org.
