Three people nabbed for illegal garbage disposal

Date Posted: 1999-10-19

An owner of a garbage transportation company, Takashi Kokuba, 45, was arrested Oct. 1 by Okinawa City Police on charges of illegal garbage disposal. Toshikazu Nakamura, 44, an executive of the company, was arrested as an accomplice on the same day. Prior to these two menís arrests, a third man, Hiroichi Kinjo, 45, who was discovered throwing garbage away at a reclaimed land in Miyagi, Chatan, was nabbed by the police a day before.

The police identified the two suspects after Kinjo, under questioning, stated that the two had ordered him and other company employees to throw the garbage away on the reclaimed land. The other workers have not been arrested, but the Okinawa City Police is questioning them about their garbage disposal activities. The investigators allege that the illegally disposed junk equals six full loads of 10-ton trucks or 60,000 kilograms.

The case was first brought to the attention of the Environmental Sanitary Division at Koza Public Health Center. They informed the Okinawa City Police about the incident and stated that they already had given the company a warning and administrative guidance about their disposal activities. After the police received a notification from the Public Health Center, they began an investigation in detail into the case that lead to the arrest of the three suspects.
