Autumn Safe Driving Campaign highlights need for greater commitment

Date Posted: 1999-10-01

The annual Autumn Driving Campaign, which started September 21 and ran until Thursday, has again highlighted the need for safer driving by all motorists in the prefecture.

Prior to the campaign, a conference was held September 16 at the Southern Plaza Kaiho, in Naha City, where members of the Prefectural Safety Driving Committee Union and executives of the Taxi Union discussed the promotion of safe driving.

They emphasized the need for a greater use of child safety restraints, child safety seats and seat belts. They also discussed traffic accident prevention and the possibility of stronger laws to combat drink driving.

Tuesday, the first day of Safety Driving Campaign, saw a Local Residents Safety Driving Conference held at the Okinawa Civic Hall in Yaeshima, Okinawa City, sponsored by the Okinawa Prefectural Police Headquarters, Okinawa Safety Driving Committee, Okinawa and the Chatan Cities Safe Driving Promotion Committee.
