Gangster nabbed for employing minor

Date Posted: 1999-10-01

A known gangster is under arrest after police found he violated Child Welfare laws by employing a minor to work past midnight in an Okinawa City restaurant.

Tomokazu Haneji, 49, was arrested Monday on suspicion of hiring in November 1998 a 16-year-old high school boy to work as a waiter between the hours of 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. at the Misato, Okinawa City restaurant, in violation of Child Welfare Regulations. Police said after the teenager’s main duties of serving alcohol and meals to customers were completed he would then be forced to clean the restaurant. The incident came to light when a patron notified police.
