EXPO Land to undergo face-lift

EXPO Development, a company recently created to renovate EXPO Land in Motobu, have opened an office in Motobu Town. The company was established mainly by the George House, which has headquarters in Osaka, and have a project dubbed the Caribbean Theme Resort Development Project.

Based on this project, EXPO Development plan to redevelop EXPO Land next to EXPO Park by building hotels, a theme park and shopping arcade by the year 2003, and have a budget of 15.3 billion. They will also seek out other investors, including domestic and international concerns.

EXPO Land was opened in 1975 as part of the Okinawa Marine Exposition held in Motobu. The land is now owned by the Okinawa Prefectural Government. Currently, the Okinawa Kanko Convention Bureau has rented the land from the prefecture and managed the EXPO Land as an amusement park.
