One year to go to Okinawa SummitDate Posted: 1999-07-24 Local municipalities have pinned high hopes to the event. According to polls, over 80 percent of the prefecture’s residents think that the summit will have a positive impact on the prefecture. Most municipalities are busy making plans to attract the participating leaders and their spouses to pay a visit. U.S. President Bill Clinton and the First Lady Hillary seem to be on everyone’s wish list. Okinawa City Mayor has already announced his intention to name a public square after Clinton. He also wishes the president to give a speech somewhere in the city. Kadena Town Mayor hopes that the president’s plane will land at Kadena Air Base, and that the president will speak to his townspeople. Itoman City Mayor wishes all eight leaders to come to the Peace Memorial Park in Mabuni, Itoman City, and attend a peace ceremony there. |
