Outdoor music lovers and rockers ready yourself for some great music Sunday, July 18, when five different artists and bands take to the stage in one of Okinawa's hottest summer blowouts. What makes this event so special is that the bands and singers hail from outside of Japan, which is sure to create an atmosphere unlike any other concert to date. This music extravaganza will take place on the lawn area of the beautiful Sun Marina Resort, starting at 5 p.m., as part of their annual "Summer Illusion" event. Even more amazing, is that this concert is totally for free!

Leading the way will be Kellie Wright with the "Blue Diamonds." The Australian-born Wright has made a name for herself locally, playing at many shows both on and off-base. Her versatile background and soaring vocals gives her the ability to sing everything from rock íní roll to country.

Stepping right on the heels of Wright this Sunday will be the band "Fast Forward," one of the island's many new talents to hit the local music scene. Although "Fast Forward" was formed in 1997, its members are all seasoned musicians with a long list of musical history both here in Okinawa and abroad. Their blend of jazz and R&B are sure to electrify the audience with some great summertime music.

"Cry Wolf," one of Okinawa's premiere live rock bands will bang out some classic rock tunes following "Fast Forward's" performance. The band has played their way through many of the island's hot music clubs, producing a solid name for the five rockers. They recently performed at Okinawa's "Peaceful Love Rock Festival Ď99," putting on a great show and earning themselves greater recognition among their peers. The band plays tunes from such rock legends as Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers.

Next in line for this spectacular stage show is David Ralston, a rising star who has been blowing away listeners with his 1934 National steel guitar. His pulsating lyrics and southern blues sound has gained him the attention of many well-known musicians and producers. Ralston is coming off a recording session in the U.S., where he played with many of the country's finest musicians. He is expected by many in the music industry to be a major force in the world of blues.

Headlining the show is someone who needs no introduction here on Okinawa - Maria Howell. Listening to her fabulous voice is all you need to hear to know why people are calling her one of the most talented singers this side of the Pacific. Howell is also performing on a wave of success that includes a recent recording session for her debut CD.

With such diverse talent and proven success, the artists scheduled for this year's Sun Marina "Summer Illusion" concert are sure to delight live music fans. Later on this month, Sun Marina will also bring together some of Tokyo's and Okinawa's hottest bands during "Bang! holiday 1999" on July 31 for a day filled with "Ska" and "Hard Core" rock - Japan's latest underground music craze.

You can catch Diamantes, who will play the following week on August 1 for another free concert, The latina pop band has long been a crowd pleaser here on Okinawa. If you consider yourself a concert maniac, be sure to head on over to Sun Marina Resort starting this Sunday and catch all the action.

To get tickets for the upcoming "Bang! Holiday 1999" concert, pay a visit to either Tower Records in Naha or Book Box in Hambi. Tickets are now on sale for •3,500.
