WWFJ to open Office and laboratory in Ishigaki

The WWFJ, or World Wide Fund for Nature Japan, told a press conference on July 9 that they are planning to establish a Coral Reef Preservation and Laboratory Office in Ishigaki City.

The WWFJ has played an important part in the preservation efforts of coral reefs at Shiraho, Yaeyama Island, and the new office will be an important contribution to this. Future activities include researchng the current condition of coral reefs, water pollution, and conduct of a symposium.

Construction of the new facility will start in September. The first region to be investigated will be the marine environs of Ishigaki Island, with the overall aim being the preservation of the sea environment on the Eastern Pacific seaboard of Okinawa.
