Okinawa City Police to get serious about motor cycle gangs

Date Posted: 1999-07-17

The Okinawa City Police have established an investigation unit to deal with motor cycle gangs once and for all. The action was taken because of incidents on July 4, when the police arrested 15 gang members for reckless driving, 13 being minors. The entire group was sent to the public prosecutor's office the next day. 12 were held in custody, and 2 were sent to the classification office. The police found that all were intoxicated when arrested.

The new investigation unit consists of 42 officers. Plans include creating liaisons with local PTAs, schools and main stores, and swap information about who is participating in gang activities.
