Ginowan City Board of Education stated Tuesday that the they had sent a notification authorizing Amerasian students, who have registered with Japanese public schools but stopped going to their school for one reason or another, to attend the Amerasian School in Okinawa. The Amerasian School in Okinawa is a private educational institution for students who have experienced difficulties attending Okinawan public schools. The notification was sent to twelve elementary and junior high schools in Ginowan City.

"Amerasian" is a coined word that combines "American" and "Asian" and indicating children who were born between the American and Asian couple. Those children have suffered of various problems including bullying, and linguistic barriers with their peers. Some Amerasian students have chosen to attend private educational facilities after enrolling in Japanese schools first. However, the schooling at those private schools has not been authorized and those students have not been able to receive the official Japanese national Certificate of the Compulsory Education. Without the certificate, it has been difficult for them to enroll in high schools. The subjects of the notification are five elementary grade students and two students in junior high school.
