Typhoon Bart roars to Okinawa

Super Typhoon "Bart" hit Okinawa Tuesday. The most powerful typhoon of the year started as a small tropical storm, but rapidly strengthened its power while staying to the south of Miyako Island, making small erratic moves in its position before taking a decisive path.

"Bart" played havoc with the schedule of the transport facilities and all schools are closed on Wednesday. The buses also stopped running their routes. On Tuesday, nearly 80 flights, connecting the islands of Okinawa, were cancelled stranding over four thousand people. The flights were also canceled Wednesday.

According to the Okinawa weather information bureau, the storm warning is not expected to be cleared until Thursday morning the earliest.

As of Wednesday by noon, no major destruction or damage caused by this 18th typhoon of the season has been reported.
