Heilmann, Nakamura recital set for Sept. 26By: Kotoko Chinen Date Posted: 1999-09-18 After a number of splendid musical achievements throughout the world, Heilmann and Nakamura settled down in Nakamura's hometown of Kagoshima Prefecture in 1996, and have widened their sphere of musical activity and influence since then. The first step to make this fabulous opera recital come true can be traced back to about a year ago, when Heilmann visited the Sugar Hall for the very first time for a rehearsal. So smitten with Sugar Hall did he become, he decided it was time to make his first recital in Okinawa. Two young pianists, Yuri Ueki and Osamu Oshiro, from Okinawa will join Heilmann and Nakamura for the evening. Heilmann debuted at the age of 21, and since then has performed at major theaters, including the Geneva Theater and the Vienna National Theater. He has also participated in a number of opera recordings and collaborated with many leading conductors, including Japan’s own Seiji Ozawa. Nakamura debuted in 1978, and during her college years in Germany, won several prestigious awards. After her return to Japan, she found even more time to perform with her husband, including joining him in teaching at the Okinawa Prefectural Arts University. At the recital, Nakamura will perform songs by Pfitzner and Dvorak, such as "Venus mater" and "Zigeunermelodien", and Heilmann will include songs by Schubert, such as "Die Forelle" and " Der Juengling und der Tod.” A pair of tickets to the Uwe Heilmann & Tomoko Nakamura recital will be given away to Japan Update readers. If you would like a chance to win the tickets, please send a fax to 934-5690 or e-mail kotoko@japanupdate.com with your name, fax or e-mail address. The deadline is Monday September 20. |
