SUMMIT restaurant opens in host city

Date Posted: 1999-09-18

Capitalizing on Nago’s newfound international status as the host city for next year’s G8 meeting, one bright entrepreneur has opened a restaurant called Summit in the heart of Nago City

Owner Kazuo Matsuhashi said the naming of the restaurant was in celebration of the one-year “anniversary” of the G8 Summit, when leaders from the world’s leading industrialized nations will visit and stay in the city.

Once the summit has ended, Matsuhashi said he has no plans to change the restaurant name, as it will remain as a monument to the very special occasion.

The restaurant’s main menu is spaghetti, and also boasts of 20 varieties of pasta to please an ever-increasing number of past lovers throughout the prefecture. The selection of coffees is also impressive, with 16 different varieties to choose from. You can also select from a wide range of cocktails and liquors

Matsuhashi said he prepares and cooks every dish, and is planning to add a variety of curry dishes this week. Also, menus will soon be available in English. The Summit is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Directions: Make a left turn at the intersection where you find the 21seiki-no-mori baseball stadium on your left. Drive about 200 meters and you’ll see the blue-colored roof of the restaurant building on the right, next to the Yugafu Inn Okinawa hotel.
