Police collar hog farmer

Date Posted: 1999-09-10

Okinawa City Police arrested Wednesday the 52-year-old owner of a hog raising farm, located in Ikehara, Okinawa City on suspicion of violating the Keep Our Rivers Clean Regulation.

A day earlier at around 8 a.m., the hog farmer is believed to have allowed excreta and urine to enter the Tengan River from his hog farm in Okinawa City.

The farmerís abuse first came to light in February, when local residents raised the alarm and alerted police to the manís illegal practice of allowing the hogsí waste to run into the river. This action allowed the Okinawa City Public Health Center and City Office to intervene and warn the man.

After only three months, however, it was found the man had once again started to use the river as his own personal sewerage outlet.
