Bozosoku gang obstruct police, charges filed

Date Posted: 1999-07-09

A gang of motorcyclists who clashed with police officers Sunday have been arrested on charges of obstructing police.

At about 3 a.m. Sunday, Okinawa City Police said the 15 youths, accompanied by two adults, Tomoaki Yokota, 20, and Ryuji Tomoyose, 22, were allegedly involved in preventing police officers from performing their duties in Okinawa City.

Yokota, police said, kicked a patrol car as it pursued the gang, who were said to be riding in a reckless fashion, endangering other motorists.

When a police officer attempted to arrest Yokota for attacking the patrol car, other members of the bozosoku gang attacked both police vehicles, jumping on the hood of the cars and breaking the rear window of each car.

As police attempted to arrest 11 other members of the motorcycle gang, Tomoyose and two people hindered their attempts, resulting in charges being filed against them.
