MASSERA to open office in OkinawaDate Posted: 1999-07-09 MASSERA, established in 1930 in Buenos Aires, will open their Okinawa outlet with a ¥5 billion budget. Although the hugely successful Argentine company opened its East Asia head office in Tokyo last September, they plan on transferring most of the store’s functions to Okinawa. MASSERA said they will open a food-processing factory in the Free Trade Zone in Naha City, and dessert shops, selling such items as ice cream. The Okinawa store is the first step in a long-range plan by MASSERA to make their way into other East Asian countries. Plans are also underway to sell Okinawan products in South America. The president of MASSERA Japan, Tadashi Miyagi, said it was the first time an Argentine company had opened an outlet on Okinawa, adding it was conveniently located to prepare for entry into highly lucrative Asian markets. The office in Okinawa will generate employment for approximately 40 people, good news for the nearly 9 percent of Okinawans currently unemployed. |
