Annual Okinawa-Zamami Yacht Race attracts 17 teams

Date Posted: 1999-07-03

The Annual Okinawa-Zamami Yacht Race was conducted Saturday for the 22nd time under near ideal conditions. Seventeen yachts with a combined crew of more than 100 sailors took part over a 52-kilometer-long course between the two islands.

The race, which first began as a preliminary to the Okinawa-Tokyo Yacht Race but has since proven extremely popular, is held to promote Okinawan ocean leisure activities and tourism.

By day’s end, the yacht “Chogenbo” skippered by Toshihiro Kanda was declared the winner.
