Obesity in men on the increase

The number of obese Japanese men is on the rise in rural districts more so than in urban areas, according to research conducted by the National Health and Diet Research Institute, while Japanese women are starting to slim down.

The institute said possible factors for the rise include changes in diet and a lack of exercise caused by a reliance on automobiles and a decline in the number of people engaged in agriculture.
