Players ball, best bodies, good times!By: Jerry Anderson III Date Posted: 1999-06-26 ![]() Shortly after 2 a.m., after partygoers danced most of the evening away to the pulsating, hypnotic musical smorgasbord provided courtesy of DJ HI-5ive, and marveled at the cameo appearances of TV’s “Comic View” comedians Honest John and Dennis Gaxiola, promoter Big Country began the contest for best dressed male and female. After narrowing the selected to just shy of a dozen, the final winners were chosen. Dressed to kill in a white pinstripe suit, Therral Hart was victorious in the best-dressed male category. And winning in the female category was sultry Dawn Cruise dressed in a simple but elegant black velvet gown. After the smoke cleared and all was said and done Big Country’s grand finale, the 2nd annual “Players Ball” left us in awe like a Michael Jordan behind the back, alley hoop, ten second hang time slam dunk that left the crowd reflecting like MC Hammer’s hit-song, “U Can’t Touch This.” It seems as the temperature escalates to a fever pitch, so does the entertainment. This week’s entertainment focus is certain to bring out some of the best bodies on the island. Living up to the title “best body” is no easy task considering Okinawa’s tropical weather is primed for avid athletes and workout enthusiasts to maintain their picture perfect bodies all year round. The Sauce Restaurant, located in Hamby Town, aims to recapture the spirit of good natured competitiveness exemplified by the few people bold enough to enter their “Budweiser Best Body” contest. The contest is open to both men and women and winners will be announced in each category. Restaurateur and “Sauce” proprietor Reggie Dumas says: “Contestants can wear whatever they want to. So if you think you have what it takes, enter.” Competition will no doubt be stiff considering the $500 dollar prizes given to the winners in both male and female categories. In addition the Budweiser Beer sponsored event will feature special guest models, the Budweiser Girls and musical entertainment by Whut Entertainment. So if you’ve been sweating to Richard Simmons “Oldies” or attending the gym regularly, here’s your chance to have a little fun, show off your hard work and who knows, maybe even win $500 dollars and the “Budweiser Best Body” title. It all takes place June 26, midnight at the “Sauce” restaurant. Entrance fee is $5 per person and $5 each for anyone attending the “Sauce” after 10 p.m. |
