Okinawa governor, Naha City mayor depart for Germany

As part of the lead up and research being done for the 2000 G8 Summit, Governor Keiichi Inamine and Nago City Mayor Tateo Kishimoto left Okinawa early Wednesday on a fact-finding mission to Germany, current host of this year’s G8 summit.

Inamine and Kishimoto plan to attend a three-day meeting in Cologne in order to oversee facilities which includes the conference center and the Japanese Press Center. They also plan to tour the city, as part of their mission to better understand how to ready the prefecture for the massive influx of dignitaries and visitors.

June 19 will see the governor meet with the mayor of Cologne to discuss this year’s summit and Okinawa’s role as host of the 2000 Summit in Nago.

The two politicians plan to stay in Germany until June 23.
