Governor visits LDP headquarters to Prepare for SummitDate Posted: 1999-06-05 As part of the prefecture’s preparations for the 2000 G8 Summit, the governor discussed plans for promoting the local economy and the high expectations the G8 meeting has fostered in the community. Also, Chairman of the LDP in Okinawa, Nobuaki Kakazu, citing his role as a representative of the people, said he hopes the central government would promote and utilize the newly refurbished Naha Airport and refrain from using Kadena Air Base, as has been suggested. Concerns have been raised over Naha Airport’s capacity to cope with the large numbers of staff, reporters, and tourism demands expected during the 2000 Summit. LDP members said they would give Okinawa as much assistance as possible to ensure the summit is a success. |
