50-year-old man drowns trying to cool offDate Posted: 1999-05-29 Police seek hit-and-run driver A driver who knocked down a pedestrian then drove away is being sought by police for questioning over the incident in which the victim was seriously injured. On Sunday at about 8:25 p.m, the 49-year-old man crossed a street in Shimashi, Ginowan City, and was knocked down by a car en route from Oyama to Ojyana. The driver of the offending vehicle immediately fled the scene without stopping. The victim received a broken leg, which will take two months recuperation. Ginowan City Police are now seeking information about the make and model of the vehicle in question. Local man killed in Osaka traffic accident An Okinawan man believed to be heavily intoxicated lost his life Sunday in a two-car accident in Osaka, which also left six others injured. According to police, Munenori Tomitake, 20, attempted to pass another vehicle that had stopped at traffic lights, when he lost control of his vehicle, careened across the road and crashed into a car driven by Yuuzou Yanagikawa, 33, in Chuo-ku, Osaka. Tomitake's five passengers, also from Okinawa, and the driver of the other car were seriously injured. Police investigators said Tomitake and his companions had consumed a large amount of alcohol after eating out earlier that evening. Police arrest 11 minors on traffic violations Prefectural Police from the Traffic Violations Division and Urasoe City Police arrested Thursday 11 minors, believed to be members of a bozozoku gang, after they allegedly violated traffic regulations during a wild riding spree earlier this year. According to police, the suspects, aged 16 to 17 years of age, were part of a 20-strong pack of motorcyclists and 20 scooters that rode along major thoroughfares in Naha and Urasoe on January 21 and 31, creating chaos en route as they sped from one side of the road to the other. Police said some of the group were brandishing steel bars. One teenager was arrested after it was found he did not have a driver's license. Two other suspects are presently under investigation. Bozozoku is a Japanese term for large groups of motorcyclists who ride around suburbs shouting and yelling and disturbing normal traffic flow. Car crash claims elderly man Police believe an elderly man may have suffered a heart attack moments before being involved in a fatal traffic accident in Sunabe, Chatan early Thursday morning. At approximately 8:40 a.m., the 69-year-old man was traveling along Highway 58 in Sunabe, Chatan, when he lost control of his vehicle then slammed into the back of a truck stopped at traffic lights. According to Okinawa City Police, the man had a history of heart disease and believe there is a possibility he suffered a fatal heart attack prior to the accident. Investigations are continuing. Police arrest man for violating minor Police arrested a 43-year-old man Thursday on charges of violating the rights of a minor. According to investigations, Hiromi Hosokawa was charged after it was found he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old high school girl in June last year. Hosokawa admitted his guilt and acknowledged he was aware the girl was a minor at the time of the incident. |
