Getting a bird's eye view of Okinawa

Have you ever had dreams of flying high through the sky? For Kadena Aero Club member Marti Campbell, her dream became reality as she recently made her first solo flight. "I wanted to fly ever since my her father-in-law took me for a ride in a float plane in Alaska," Ms Campbell said. She also went on to say how wonderfully organized the school is and what a professional and dedicated group of instructors are on-hand to show you the ropes. Bobbie Suell, Kadena Aero Club Manager and FAA Designated Pilot Examiner, has been with the club since it was founded in 1984 and is one of eight instructors. According to Suell, "the Kadena Aero Club is the only one of its kind on the island and has been accident free throughout its history." A marvelous achievement.

For those daredevils out there who want to try something challenging and exciting, ground school is held each quarter and lasts eight weeks. Classes are held each Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. -9 p.m. Also, for those who are already pilots, you may want to find out how you can take a friend or relative on a joy ride and catch a glimpse of Okinawa from a Cessna. Aero Club Membership is open to all U.S. forces personnel, civilian employees, and government contractors with SOFA status, their dependants who are at least 16 years old, and retirees. On May 29 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., the Kadena Aero Club will man a booth set up in front of Kadena BX to answer any questions you may have about their organization. If you can't make it to the booth, contact Bobbie Suell at the Kadena Flight Training Center at 634-5758 for further information.
