New MCI Card

McLean, Virg., April 19, 1999-MCI WorldCom announced today that it will release a new collectible prepaid phone card for United States Marines and other service personnel participating in Exercise Cobra Gold '99. The collectible prepaid card, prominently featuring the specially designed 1999 MCCS Cobra Gold logo, will allow military members to better reach friends and family during the upcoming joint exercise in Thailand. Available at the Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) facility located at Camp Samaeson, Cobra Gold, the Cobra Gold prepaid card will sell for $20 and have approximately 14 minutes of calling time. The limited edition competitively priced prepaid cards can be used on cellular and pay phones during Exercise Cobra Gold to call from Thailand to the U.S. and Japan. MCI WorldCom Government Markets also will be providing cellular service to military personnel for the first time at Cobra Gold as part of its ongoing efforts with MCCS, Okinawa to provide more choices in telecommunications services to the military community. "We're looking forward to our joint effort with MCCS, Okinawa at Cobra Gold," said executive director for DoD and NII programs Diana Gowen. "We're always looking for new opportunities to provide cost effective telecommunications services to our military community and these collectible prepaid cards are just one example of the things we're doing better, to better serve those who serve."

Cobra Gold is a continuing series of U.S.-Thai military exercises designed to promote regional peace and strengthen the ability of the Royal Thai Armed Forces to defend Thailand. The training includes joint combined air, land and sea operations. U.S. participants include elements of the United States Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force.
